Following is a list of some of the most requested items related to permits. See the License and Permit page for a full listing of all required permits.
Any structural changes, additions, alterations/remodel, and new structures require a building permit.
A permit is required for any type of deck installation. Concrete patios do not require a permit. Please contact the Engineering Department and Zoning Administrator for any restrictions.
A driveway approach permit is required for new or replacement of the entrance portion of the driveway (the portion that lies within the public road right-of-way, approximately 16 feet from road or curb) and it must be concrete or asphalt. Gravel approaches are not allowed. There is no permit required for the main driveway portion that is constructed on private property. However, concrete/asphalt or gravel must be 5 feet or the size of an easement away from the property line. Please contact Diggers Hotline before you dig.
Any electrical work requires an electrical permit.
A permit is required for installing any length and type of fencing. The City does not mark your property lines nor have any involvement in property line disputes. Please contact Diggers Hotline before you dig.
A permit is required for any accessory structures larger than 10 x 12 (120 square feet). Sheds 120 square feet or less shall follow the setback guidelines of 5 feet from any property lines and 10 feet from the house.
A permit is required for any type of gazebo installation.
A building permit is required for installing a hot tub on an existing grade. An electrical permit is required. If placing the hot tub on a deck previously installed, a building permit is required.
Does not require a permit. Any poured concrete slabs for a future garage will require a permit. Otherwise, the slab will be included in the garage permit. Please contact the Engineering Department and Zoning Administrator for any restrictions.
Any plumbing work requires a plumbing permit. This includes new or replacement water heater and dishwasher, and any plumbing fixtures.
A permit is required for any type of ramp installation.
No building permit required unless adding a third layer or structural components.
There is a permit (free of charge) for replacing a public sidewalk. No permit is required for adding, replacing, or removing sidewalk on private property.
