Snow Removal from Sidewalks

Whether working to improve their personal fitness, walking their pets or even just enjoying a stroll through their neighborhood, more and more people in Oak Creek rely on the public sidewalk network.

With winter upon us, please remember that snow and ice removal from public sidewalks is the responsibility of the abutting property owners.  Section 6.24 of the Oak Creek Municipal Code outlines that snow and ice must be removed from the sidewalks and curb ramps within 24 hours after a snowfall event has ended.  And Section 11.104 establishes snow and ice not removed as nuisances and subject to enforcement as such.  

Failure on the property owner’s part to remove the snow from the public sidewalks in accordance with city ordinances could result in it being cleared by city forces, with the associated costs being invoiced back to that property owner and/or added as a special charge to their property tax bill.  It could also result in the issuance of a citation in the amount of $124.
