City Civic Center Site Design
For Your Information!
The Ad hoc Civic Center Steering Committee was formed by the Common Council in March of 2006. It evaluated the existing Civic Center buildings, future needs and made recommendations to the Common Council in 2007.
The Civic Center Design Steering Committee was formed in July 2007 by the Common Council to recommend a site design for the future Civic Center. The committee:
- Discussed possible alternative site locations.
- Developed a consensus for a vision of what a Civic Center would be used for.
- Reviewed the existing buildings and utilities.
- Engaged the services of a professional Architect to provide assistance in the site design planning.
- Approved a site concept design for the new Civic Center.
The Civic Center Design Steering Committee report presented to the Common Council in the fall of 2008 recommended keeping the Civic Center at its current location. The group also unveiled a possible site concept design that provided for the construction of a new City Hall and Library complex with a Community Green (outdoor meeting area) to create a center of the city. This area was envisioned as a gathering place for civic events.
At this point in time the Common Council would like to have additional citizen input in the Civic Center design process. Please email us with your comments on the proposed Civic Center at CivicCenter@oakcreekwi.org.
