WisDOT: Howell Avenue Project in Milwaukee County Recommences

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has resumed work on a resurfacing project of WIS 38 (Howell Ave.) from Oakwood Road to Grange Ave., in the cities of Milwaukee and Oak Creek, in Milwaukee County.

The project began in spring of 2014. After a halt during the winter, work has recommenced. The contractor, Payne & Dolan, plans on completing the project in mid-summer of 2015. The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

2014 work completed

Howell Avenue

  • Milled and overlaid majority of roadway
  • Configured to add some right turn lanes, extend some left turn lanes and modify some median openings
  • Began upgrades of traffic signals at eight existing intersections
  • Designated areas for new sidewalk

WIS 119/Airport Spur

  • Milled and overlaid ER (eastbound) ramp

2015 work to be completed

Howell Avenue

  • Completing milling and overlaying at intersections
  • Placing permanent asphalt on adjacent roads and at right turn lanes
  • Installing permanent traffic signals
  • Finishing sidewalks with concrete pavement

WIS 119/Airport Spur

  • Base patching along with milling and resurfacing of  WC (westbound) ramp

There will be periodic lane restrictions throughout the duration of the project.
