Dear Property Owner/Resident:

The Milwaukee County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) would like to take this opportunity to provide you with an update on the reconstruction of South 13th Street (CTH V) between W. Drexel Ave and W. Rawson Ave. We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation during the construction inconveniences caused by the project being significantly behind schedule.

The contractor continues to focus their resources on restoring two-way traffic between Drexel Avenue and Rawson Avenue by placing as much permanent pavement as possible in 2018. This work will be weather dependent and will rely on the new road foundation not freezing before permanent pavement can be placed.  If the new road foundation freezes before the permanent pavement is installed, the contractor and the project staff will implement temporary measures to maintain safe access for the travelling public during the winter until construction can resume in more favorable weather.

Some of the temporary actions the project has employed is the application of soil stabilizer to all unrestored turf surfaces to minimize soil erosion, and temporary asphalt driveways to maintain access to your property.  Temporary actions to be put into effect after the remaining permanent pavement cannot be placed this season include backfilling drop-offs adjacent to the permanent pavements with soil or gravel and placing temporary pavement where a paved surface is necessary to maintain access and safety.

The traffic control for the project will be modified to accommodate two-way traffic as conditions allow.  Temporary mailboxes will remain in place until the sidewalks and lawn surfaces are completed in 2019.

Please be assured that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), the administrative agency of the project, is holding the contractor accountable for not finishing the project on time.  Again, we appreciate your patience and cooperation.

We will continue to keep you updated on the project progress.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email me.  My contact information is listed below.
