The Oak Creek Police Department will be conducting directed enforcement of distracted driving in an effort to reduce and avoid the number of accidents and injuries caused by this dangerous behavior. Officers will be looking for any unsafe driving actions caused by inattentive or distracted driving.
According to Distraction.gov, the official US Government website for Distracted Driving, distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving. All distractions endanger driver, passenger and bystander safety. These types of distractions can include:
• Using a cell phone or smartphone
• Eating and drinking
• Talking to passengers
• Reading, including maps
• Using a navigation system
• Watching a video
• Adjusting a radio, CD player or MP3 player
