The Department of Community Development is excited to announce the launch of FOCUS 2035, the update process for the City’s Comprehensive Plan.  Several opportunities for public input and participation will be available throughout the process, beginning with a Kickoff Meeting November 12 at 6:00 PM at the City Hall.  Community Development staff will provide an overview of the Plan and update process, and will be available to answer any questions.

A new web-based participation tool called sMap will also be introduced at this meeting.  All are welcome and encouraged to participate!

What is the Comprehensive Plan?

The Comprehensive Plan is used to guide land use and development throughout the City based on the community vision for the next 20 years.  Wisconsin’s Smart Growth legislation requires comprehensive plans to include 9 elements:

  1. Issues and opportunities
  2. Housing
  3. Transportation
  4. Utilities and community facilities
  5. Agricultural, natural and cultural resources
  6. Economic development
  7. Intergovernmental cooperation
  8. Land-use
  9. Implementation

How we achieve the community vision, and measure success, is through the implementation strategies and monitoring procedures outlined in the Plan.

Plans must be amended or updated periodically to revise goals and implementations strategies based on the community vision, to evaluate progress toward achieving established goals, and to be consistent with State law.

If you have any questions about the Comprehensive Plan or FOCUS 2035, please contact the Department of Community Development.
