This Saturday, September 7, we will be kicking off our 2nd Annual Mayor’s Fitness Challenge at Wheaton-Franciscan Hospital at 10101 S. 27th Street. This year’s Challenge features on-line registration, fitness events open to all ages, a Challenge wrist band, and a free Challenge t-shirt for any participant who attends at least ten of our Challenge events. We have added several new fitness partners this year, and are also sponsoring fitness socials and nutritional seminars during the four months of the Challenge. We will be holding events throughout Oak Creek, and the surrounding communities through January 4, 2014. The kick-off event begins at 1:00pm, and we would love to see the community come out to get fit together.

For more information on the Challenge, and to follow along with the fitness stories of our featured “Mayor’s Picks”, follow us on our Challenge Facebook page at www.facebook.com/OCMayorsChallenge. They each have a unique story to tell, and will be blogging about their experiences throughout the four months.

We’ll be picking our 2013 Mayor’s Landscaping Award winners this week, and honoring them at the second Common Council meeting in September. Each of the nominated households and businesses demonstrates a commitment to enhancing the beauty and overall appearance of our city, through colorful plantings and landscape design.

As September arrives, please make sure you are extra cautious and slow down as you drive through our neighborhoods and school zones. The school year brings many small children near the streets and into the crosswalks, and a little patience behind the wheel can make for a safer community. Friday night means high school football, and our local Knights squad is looking to defend their undefeated conference title of last year. Check out the field turf at Knights Community Stadium, now one of the finest high school stadiums in southeast Wisconsin.

Go Knights!
