Around the Town with Mayor SteveShare This +
On Saturday, September 7, we’ll kick off the second Mayor’s Fitness Challenge with an event at Wheaton-Franciscan Hospital on S. 27th Street, with all of our Challenge partners on-site and ready to answer your questions. This year’s version features an earlier start, giving us the opportunity to take advantage of our great fall weather. September events include an outdoor Zumbathon at Knights Community Stadium, and a 5K run/walk on September 28. We’re also rolling out an on-line registration system, giving you the opportunity to print your registration certificate. Just bring it with you to ten Challenge events throughout the four months of the Challenge, and we’ll give you a free Mayor’s Fitness Challenge t-shirt. Here is the link for the on-line registration.
Each of our participants will have the opportunity to win random prizes donated by local businesses, and work out with many of our local Challenge Fitness Club partners at “flash fitness” events, scheduled weekly through December. We’re also featuring at least ten “Mayor’s Picks” participants whose personal fitness stories will be featured during the Challenge, as they blog about their experiences on our Challenge Facebook page and in other local media coverage. Each of them has a unique story to tell, and they are ready and willing to help the rest of the community get fit as we work out together.
This year’s Challenge partners include Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, 9Round, Anytime Fitness, CrossFit Oak Creek, Curves, Innovative, Jazzercize, Impact Fitness, Moxie Fitness, Oak Creek Fitness, Planet Fitness, Xperience Fitness, YMCA South Shore and Zumba Mike. Many of the clubs will also be hosting fitness demonstrations spotlighting their specific workout regimens. We have clubs from Oak Creek, Franklin, Cudahy, and South Milwaukee this year, and we’ll continue to add Challenge partners as we spread the Mayor’s Fitness Challenge across the south shore. Make sure you “like” our Facebook page for up-to-date information on scheduled events, and other Challenge news.
We’ll be announcing our 2013 Mayor’s Landscaping Award winners shortly. We have some great nominations to sort through this year, with many residents and local businesses stepping up to make our city beautiful. We’ll announce our 2013 winners at a Common Council meeting in September. Keep planting those flowers!
