OFFICIAL NOTICE

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

BEFORE THE OAK CREEK COMMON COUNCIL

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this public hearing is to consider a proposal by the City of Oak Creek to amend Sections 17.0705, 17.0707, and 17.0709 of the Municipal Code regarding temporary, construction, and portable signs.
Hearing Date:
Monday, April 2, 2007
Time:
7:00 p.m.
Place:
Oak Creek City Hall
8640 South Howell Avenue
Oak Creek, WI  53154
Common Council Chambers
Proposal:
This proposed language would define temporary signs and implement a no-fee permitting process to effectively and efficiently enforce temporary signage.  Furthermore, the proposed language would combine portable sign regulations with temporary sign regulations and allow non-profit/charitable signs to be displayed off site.

Currently, temporary signs are limited in size (32 square ft per side with a maximum of 64 square feet on all sides), duration (30 days per calendar year), and location (setbacks). Furthermore, no temporary signs are allowed off site except for political campaign signs.  The new ordinance would add regulations regarding the number of temporary signs per year (4) and for how long they can be displayed (15 days). To accomplish this, a no-fee permitting system is incorporated into the proposed language. In addition, non-profit/charitable temporary signs will be allowed to be displayed off site.

The Common Council has scheduled other public hearings for April 2, 2007 at 7:00 PM.  This hearing may begin at 7:00 PM or as soon as possible following the conclusion of other public hearings.

Any person(s) with questions regarding the proposed change may call the Department of Community Development at (414) 768-6527, during regular business hours.
