Personnel Committee Meeting

September 25, 2007 5:00 p.m.

Committee members present:  Mike Toman, Tom Michalski;   Al Foeckler – 5:25p.m.

Also Present:  Administrator Patrick DeGrave, Finance Manager RoseAnn Underberg, and Fire Chief Brian Satula.

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman Toman.  It was noted that Alderman Foeckler called to indicate he was delayed and would be slightly late.

Item No. 2 – To convene to Executive Session per WI Statute 19.85(1) (c) & (e) to

1. Discuss impact of tunnel rescue with Local 1848
2. Review legal issues involved with new position in the Street Department

Item No. 3 – To return to open session and consider action on any matter discussed in closed session.

1. The representatives from Local 1848 were informed that the Personnel Committee denied their request for additional compensation of 4.5% over base wage for tunnel rescue assignment. 
2. Motion to approve the elimination of the position of Account Clerk II in the Street Department and create the non-bargaining unit position of Administrative Assistant; and to authorize the posting and advertising of the position within a wage range of $37,500 to $47,000.

Item No. 4 – Review and approve minutes from previous meeting

No minutes were available.  The minutes from the 08-22-07 meeting will be presented for approval at the next meeting.

Item No. 5 – Consider tuition reimbursement request

The Committee received a request for tuition reimbursement from Firefighter Peter Olson for an undergraduate class in Fire Department Structure at MATC.  Chief Satula has approved the class and noted that “Employee has depleted most of the funds allocated, reimbursement based on funds availability.”
