Training Room
Oak Creek Fire Station #3
There were approximately 5 residents present for the item. The residents sited a number of concerns for the intersection which include the following: serves as bus stop for four separate pick up times, perception of excessive speed, don’t feel safe walking, inattentive drivers, and it would make it easier to self police. Engineering Department stated that the installation would probably only create a spot reduction in speed and the chances of vehicles running the stop sign would probably be around 25%. The citizens didn’t believe the Engineering opinion and stated that if drivers are running the stop sign, they should be ticketed.
Motion by Tom Rosandich and seconded by Mark Verhalen to install a four-way stop at W. Potomac Drive and S. Delaware Drive. Motion passed with 6 in favor and two against (Engineering and Mike Helegeson).
There were approximately 20 residents present for items B & C, so both items were taken together. The residents stated that approximately 27 children live along Fenway and that with sidewalk on only one side, children tend to cross mid block to get to the sidewalk. They also stated that it is hard to watch their children at all times and the City should provided additional measures to control speed such as placement of stop signs. They also sited that there are two bus stops at Orchard View along with numerous cars going over curbs into yards at the corner at S. Stone Creek Drive. Commission continued discussion with residents, but clearly stated that even with the introduction of stop signs, the residents are still responsible to educate the children that there will be vehicles that do not obey the new stop signs.
Motion by Mark Verhalen and seconded by Dave Schneider to install a four-way stop at E. Fenway Drive and S. Sharon Drive. Motion passed with 6 in favor and two against (Engineering and Streets).
See item B for discussion.
Motion by Mark Verhalen and seconded by Dave Schneider to install a two-way stop at E. Fenway Drive and S. Orchard View Lane and to install on stop sign on S. Stone Creek Drive at the intersection of E. Fenway Drive and S. Stone Creek Drive. Motion passed with 6 in favor and two against (Engineering and Streets).
There were 3 residents present for the item. The residents stated that since the new subdivision to the south was connected to the existing roadway, they have experienced additional traffic that travel at higher speeds. They also commented on the additional traffic from the local school and poor driving habits of bus drivers. They stated that they were committed to continuing teaching and watching children in the area even with the installation of the stop sign.
Motion by Dave Schneider and seconded by Mark Verhalen to install a 3-way stop at S. Rosemont Lane and E. Bluestem Drive. Motion passed with 7 in favor and one against (Engineering).
No residents were in attendance for this matter. Engineering Department stated that the 85th percentile speeds were 25mph, 26 mph and 27 mph throughout the subdivision.
Motion by Matt Sullivan and seconded by Mike Lampe to not provide any additional speed control in the Willowbrook Subdivision. Motion passed (all in favor).
Two residents were present in favor of the placement of the sign. Commission members had no comment.
Motion by Matthew Sullivan and seconded by Steve Anderson to install No Outlet sign on E. Buckwood Court. Motion passed (all in favor).
Robert Fransway was present for this item. Mr. Fransway stated that every year there is an accident along Liberty with a parked vehicle, fire hydrant or light pole. He is worried about an accident that may involve one of the 16 unit buildings along Liberty. He stated that he wants the city to provide additional warning to drivers through signs and/or bold pavement marking. It was agreed that the Engineering Department would provide alternatives. Mr. Fransway also stated that he would pay for the installation of the pavement markings in order to have them in prior to the winter season.
Motion by Mark Verhalen and seconded by Steve Anderson to have Engineering work with Robert Fransway to design pavement marking alternatives along S. Liberty Lane. Motion passed with all in favor.
