CELEBRATIONS COMMISSION

of March 8, 2007
at 4:30 p.m.

Roll Call - 

Approve Minutes -  Motion was made by Stark, seconded by Bolender to approve the minutes of February 8, 2007.  All voted Aye.

Discussion of Events for 2007 – Lampe handed out information regarding 2007 events that will be in the Acorn and on the city’s website.

4th of July – The Shriners have agreed to be in the parade with motorcycles, mini bikes, go carts and VW bugs.  We have also signed up the Greenfield Lions Clown Squad and numerous other entries.  There will be honor guards from the VFW and the Fire and Police Departments.  We are also attempting to get representation from each branch of the service.  Use of the lighted ball diamond will not be available.  The fireworks will be in the same area as always.  The contact for the carnival rides has been received.  We have received a contract from Spielbauer Fireworks giving us $16,604.70 of fireworks for $12,000.  The rain date for fireworks will be July 5th.  Volunteers from Mid-America bank will join the Lions Club in handing out the flags.  Discussed horseshoe tournament and it was decided that an entry fee should be charged to cover prizes and referees.  Leys will look for someone to run the tournament.

Update on Summer Concert Series – The concert series is as follows:  June 13 – Vic Ferrari, June 27 – Wilson Nights, July 11 – Eddie Butts, July 25 – Cold Sweat and the Brew City Horns, August 8 – Battle of the Bands (young adult bands from the area battling it out),  August 29 – Chasin Mason.  They are looking for a sponsor for the stage rental.

Pig Roast – The city has received a Community Block Grant to remodel the bathrooms at the pavilion at Miller Park, which will include handicap accessibility from the outside.  If the restrooms are not finished by the date of the Pig Roast, portable toilets will be rented.  A contract has been signed for the DJ.  The ice cream and the freezer have been ordered.

Trick or Treat – The date for Trick or Treat will be set for Sunday, October 28 from 4 to 6 p.m.  A letter is going to the Common Council.

Old Business – No old business.

New Business –  The date for the Christmas tree lighting should be set by next month.

Adjournment – Motion was made by Sodemann, seconded by Leys, to adjourn the meeting at 5:30 pm.  All voted Aye. 

Next Meeting - The next meeting will be Thursday, April 12, at 4:30 p.m.
