TRAFFIC AND SAFETY COMMISSION

October 10, 2007
Municipal Court Room
Oak Creek Police Department

  1. Members in Attendance

Lt. Steve Anderson (Police), Asst. Chief Tom Rosandich (Fire), Cliff Nelson, Michael Helgeson, Alderman Mark Verhalen, Mike Lampe (Streets) and Matthew Sullivan (Engineering) were present.

  2. Review of Minutes

Motion by Mike Lampe and seconded by Mike Helgeson to approve the minutes of September 12, 2007.  Motion passed.

  3. Old Business
    1. Request to control speeding on S. Liberty Lane.

There were no residents present for this item.  Engineering Department presented an exhibit showing a curve ahead warning sign that would be installed north of the curve on Liberty Lane.  The sign would be a 36” x 36” W1-2R sign.  The commission agreed that this would be a good starting point.

Motion by Matthew Sullivan and seconded by Cliff Nelson to a curve ahead warning sign on S. Liberty Lane.  Motion passed with all in favor.

  4. New Business
    1. Request to install lane use pavement marking and signage on S. 10th St. at the intersection of S. 10th St. and W. Rawson Ave.

There were no residents present for this item.  The Engineering Department presented an exhibit showing the proposed pavement marking and signage.  Milwaukee County has reviewed the exhibit and has approved the layout and signage.  There was limited discussion with no objection to the improvements.

Motion by Matthew Sullivan and seconded by Mike Lampe to install lane use pavement marking and signage on S. 10th St. at the intersection of S. 10th St. and W. Rawson Ave.  Motion passed with all in favor.

    2. Request to install lane use pavement marking on E. Elm Rd. at the intersection of E. Elm Rd. and S. Howell Ave.

There were 3 residents present for this item.  The Engineering Department presented an exhibit showing the proposed improvements at the intersection with additional signage.  Residents were pleased with proposal and supported it.  They did mention that the addition of an island would deter motorists from cutting the corner.  The Engineering Department also agreed that would be the preferred alternative but the DOT would have to approve this and it would take time and the City didn’t have the available funds to do the improvement.  The residents and the commission also wanted the right turn only pavement markings removed to eliminate confusion onto using the frontage road only.

Motion by Matthew Sullivan and seconded by Mark Verhalen to install lane use pavement marking (left turn only) and signage on E. Elm Rd. at the intersection of E. Elm Rd. and S. Howell Ave contingent on approval by the WisDOT. Motion passed with all in favor.

  5. Adjournment

Motion by Steve Anderson and seconded by Mark Verhalen to adjourn.  Motion passed.

Respectfully submitted,

Matthew Sullivan
