TRAFFIC AND SAFETY COMMISSION

 

September 13, 2006

 

Municipal Court Room-Oak Creek Police Station

 

1)         Members in Attendance

 

George Artka, Tom Rosandich, Cliff Nelson, Mike Lampe, David Schneider, Alderman Thomas Michalski and Matthew Sullivan present.   

 

2)         Review of Minutes

 

Motion by Mike Lampe and seconded by David Schneider to approve the minutes of May 10, 2006.  Motion passed.

 

3)               Old Business

 

A.    No old business.

                       

4)               New Business

 

A.    Request to allow parking at 7265 S. 1st Street from 2 am to 6 am for the Journal Sentinel overflow distribution drivers.

 

Discussion on the request to allow parking by Journal Sentinel ensued.  Journal Sentinel representative stated that the overflow parking only occurs when distribution trucks are late do to a late breaking story and the printing is delayed.  He also stated that this doesn’t happen very often but does occur and the distribution drivers were not parked there for an extended period of time.

 

Motion made by Dave Schneider and seconded by George Artka to recommend the installation of “15 Minute Loading Zone 2 AM - 6 AM” sign in front of 7265 S. 1st Street.  Motion passed.

 

B.     Request for “No Parking from Here to Corner” signs to be installed on the north side of Pendragon Court 20 feet west of the intersection with Delaine Drive, and on the South side of Excaliber Court 20 feet east of the intersection with Delaine Drive.

 

Three residents from the area were in attendance with one in favor, one against and one that didn’t have a strong feeling either way.  Commission members discussed different ideas/solutions amongst themselves and with people in attendance.

 

Motion made by Alderman Tom Michalski and seconded by Mike Lampe that pavement markings indicating the beginning and end of parking be installed instead of the installation of “No Parking from Here to Corner” signs on the north side of Pendragon Court 20 feet west of the intersection with Delaine Drive, and on the South side of Excaliber Court 20 feet east of the intersection with Delaine Drive..  Motion passed.

 

C.    Request for stop sign on E. Overlook Way at the intersection of S. Wintergreen Drive.

 

Discussion regarding speeds, volumes of traffic, time, etc. was held by Commission members.  The Commission members felt that with the given data that this intersection did not warrant a stop sign.

 

Motion by Alderman Tom Michalski and seconded by Mike Lampe to deny the request for stop sign on E. Overlook Way at the intersection of S. Wintergreen Drive.  Motion passed.

 

D.    Request for stop signs on S. Wildwood Drive at the intersection of S. Waring Drive to make this a four-way stop.

 

Discussion regarding speeds, volumes of traffic, time, etc. was held by Commission members.  The Commission members felt that with the given data that this intersection did not warrant a stop sign.

 

Motion by George Artka and seconded by Alderman Tom Michalski to deny the request for stops signs on S. Wildwood Drive at the intersection of S. Waring Drive to make this a four-way stop.  Motion passed.

 

E.   Request for a 3-way stop on S. 3rd Avenue and S. Donald Drive.

 

Four residents from the area spoke in favor of have a 3-way stop at this intersection.  Discussion between the residents and Commission members took place with regards to the data that was collected on September 6, 2006.  The residents felt that the data didn’t represent the worst case which was on the weekend and that the data was taken on a bad week because of the Monday holiday.  Commission members discussed performing another study with one day during the week (Wednesday) and the other days on the weekend.

 

      Motion by Alderman Tom Michalski and seconded by George Artka to perform another study on agreed upon days (Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday) and discuss request at next meeting.  Motion passed.

 

5)               Adjournment

 

Motion by George Artka and seconded by Alderman Tom Michalski to adjourn.  Motion passed.
