MINUTES
TUESDAY, August 15, 2006, 6:30 PM
Present were Committee members: Fred Siepert, Isabel Haase, Mike O’Brien, Ed Siira, and Cal Nowak. Frank Carini arrived at 7:10 p.m.
Staff present were: Facilities Manager Dick Kulka; Information Technology Manager Caesar Geiger and Personnel Specialist Marie Kreif.
Mayor Bolender was also present for the first 15 minutes of the meeting.
Mayor Bolender reminded the group that his intention for this committee was to determine if the existing facilities are fixable and whether or not they are big enough (or how big should they be?). Once those questions are answered, if need be, a steering committee would be formed to look at options and determine costs.
Fred Siepert distributed copies of the 2020 comprehensive plan for the City of Oak Creek as developed by the Plan Commission in April 2002.
In his discussions with Ross, Cal indicated that a study was done in 1995 with estimates and options on building a new facility and the need to keep the current facility operational. Dick Kulka expressed concern over combining the Library with City Hall in that doing so would also combine two polling sites. Cal indicated that the current Library space is not adequate for future needs and that the upkeep of the current facilities are not efficient.
Isabel Haase spoke with Chief Satula and Assistant Chief Rosandich and didn’t see station #1 as repairable mainly due to the inability to find replacement parts to do the repairs and the inefficient heating system.
The group discussed looking at options both including the land that the Armory sits on and without that land as part of our project.
A brief Powerpoint presentation with photos of the various facilities was shown. The group felt that it is a good start but needs more detail with explanation of what is being shown.
The group questioned the city’s staffing needs 20-years into the future as compared to today.
Cal noted that in his tours of Franklin and Cudahy he noted that many items in their facilities were identified as having been donated (or purchased with donations made) by certain individuals such as chairs, computers, etc. and wondered if we couldn’t do the same.
The group discussed what type of “feel” our facilities should represent in comparison to other communities.
