CITY OF OAK CREEK PARKS, RECREATION & FORESTRY COMMISSION

Thursday, May 11, 2006

 

Present:  Alderperson Ann Lampe, Dan Jahn, Janet Fluegel, Marianne Dickmann, Patricia Glatch & Greg Lampe & Paul Sigler (arrived 6:10 p.m.)

Absent: Peter Wagner

In attendance: Jeff Fortin, City Planner

The May 11, 2006, Oak Creek Parks, Recreation & Forestry Commission meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m. by Chairperson Janet Fluegel

The minutes from the April 13, 2006, meeting was approved on a motion made by Patricia Glatch and seconded by Greg Lampe. All aye; motion carried.

The financial statements and claims for April 2006 were approved on a motion made by Marianne Dickmann and seconded by Dan Jahn.  All aye; motion carried.

Abendschein Community Park-Prioritize park facilities for Phase I Development

The Director and Commission briefly continued discussion from previous meetings regarding prioritizing park facilities for Phase I development of Abendschein Community Park.  Items discussed were:

  1. Water main and lateral vs. a well
  2. Storm sewer/structure vs. detention basin
  3. Submittal of park acquisition and development grant applications to the Department of Natural Resources
  4. Potential need to provide fire protection for the pavilion

The Director will continue to research various development options discussed at previous meetings.

Review 2006 Park & Open Space Plan Schedule

City Planner, Jeff Fortin, conducted a current park system and Parks and Open Space visioning exercise with the Commission.  The Commission will continue the Park & Open Space Plan update process at their June 8 and July 13 meetings.

Park Development-Update 2005/2006 CIP/CEP Projects

The Director updated the Commission on the progress of the:

  1. Storage Building
  2. DNR Grant Application
  3. Abendschein baseball dugout overhangs

Recreation Programs

No discussion on the recreation report

June Meeting, Confirm Picnic/Meeting Date & Location

Dan Jahn moved to confirm that the June 8 picnic/meeting would be at Henry Miller Park pavilion and that the Commission will meet July 13 to continue the Park & Open Space update process; seconded by Paul Sigler.  All aye; motion carried.

Deerfield Elementary School Site-Park Facilities Development

The Director informed the Commission that he reviewed the Deerfield Elementary School proposed cost sharing park facilities site plan with the school principal, Chris Gabhrel.  Mr. Gabhrel will review the plan with other school district officials and the Deerfield school site contractor and will contact the Director to meet again.

Riverton Meadows Park Playground Equipment Expansion

The Director informed the Commission that a resident(s) in the Riverton Meadows Neighborhood contacted him regarding possible expansion of the play structure in the park.  Alderperson Ann Lampe agreed with the request and the Director asked the installer of the play structure to contact the resident(s) regarding possible expansion suggestions/ideas.

The Director will bring the finalized play structure expansion plan to the Commission for review.

At 8 pm, Marianne Dickmann made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Seconded by Greg Lampe.  All aye; motion carried.
