TRAFFIC AND SAFETY COMMISSION

Municipal Court Room-Oak Creek Police Station

 

1)         Members in Attendance

 

George Artka, Cliff Nelson, Alderwoman Ann Lampe, Joe Pulvermacher for Tom Rosandich, Henry Jackson, Bill Shaper were present.   David Schneider not present with excused absence.

 

2)         Review of Minutes

 

Motion made by Bill Shaper and seconded by Cliff Nelson to approve the minutes of the January 12, 2005 meeting.  Motion passed. Ann Lampe abstained, as she was not present at that meeting.

 

3)               Old Business

 

A.    A petition was delivered to the Engineering Department to have the stop signs removed at Quincy Avenue and Monroe Avenue.  The Engineering Department performed the 6-month traffic study at the intersection.

 

Item was discussed by Committee members, based on six month and year long study data.  Overall speed has dropped approximately 2 mph.  Motion made by Ann Lampe, seconded by Bill Shaper to remove the Quincy Avenue stop signs and keep the Monroe Avenue one.  Further, this recommendation should be on the agenda for the May 11, 2005 Traffic and Safety Committee meeting with notice given to residents in the area.  Further, that the organizer of the petition to remove the stop signs be directly notified.  Motion passed.

  

B.     Request to WisDOT to lower the speed limit on Howell Avenue between Centennial Drive and Puetz Road

 

This item was held over from previous meeting. The Committee was informed by George Artka that he had been approached by a citzen regarding this request before the approval of traffic lights at S. Howell Avenue and Centennial Drive. Motion made by George Artka, seconded by Bill Shaper to deny speed reduction request on S. Howell Avenue., Centennial Drive to Puetz Road.. Motion passed.

 

4)               New Business

 

A.    Request for street lighting at the intersection of 27th Street and St. Johns Way.

 

One resident from St. Johns Subdivision, resident at northeast corner of S. 27th Street and St. Johns Way, and the Alderman of the 6th District spoke against the light installation.  Person making request was not in attendance.  Motion made by Bill Shaper, seconded by Joe Pulvermacher to deny lighting request at S. 27th Street and St. Johns Way.  Motion passed.

 

5.               Adjournment

 

Motion made by Bill Shaper and seconded by George Artka to adjourn.  Motion passed.
