TRAFFIC AND SAFETY COMMISSION

Municipal Court Room-Oak Creek Police Station

 

1)         Members in Attendance

 

Brian Murphy (for George Artka), Cliff Nelson, Tom Rosandich, Henry Jackson, David Schneider and Bill Shaper were present.   Ann Lampe not present with excused absence.

 

2)         Review of Minutes

 

Motion made by Tom Rosandich and seconded by Cliff Nelson to approve the minutes of the January 12, 2005 meeting.  Motion passed.

 

3)               Old Business

 

A.  None

 

4)               New Business

 

A.    Request for Stop Signs on S. Lenox Avenue at the intersection of E. Manitowoc Avenue.

 

Disccussion on pros and cons of stop signs for speed and traffic control. Traffic survey data reviewed. Traffic counts do not warrant stop signs. Approximately ten residents in audience, along with the District Alderperson, were in favor of signs.

 

Cliff Nelson made a motion to install stop signs for north and south bound S. Lenox Avenue traffic at E. Manitowoc Avenue.  David Schneider seconded.  Three ayes, 3 nays-tie vote.  

 

B.    Discuss the possibility of an ordinance change for a citywide ban of engine braking except in emergency.

 

Discussion ensued on merits of having a citywide ordinance passed addressing engine braking.  Committee decided to continue practice of handling on a case by case basis.

 

C.    Request to WisDOT to lower the speed limit on Howell Avenue between Centennial Drive and Puetz Road.

 

Tabled till next meeting. The request was made to George Artka. Committee will discuss when George is available to give his information on the request.

 

 

 

D.    Discuss the traffic concerns along S. 27th Street. 

 

Henry Jackson read an e-mail letter from Christy Matuszewski regarding traffic concerns on/at 2415 W. Sycamore in relation to existing conditions and the future conditions that may be associated with the Joint Oak Creek-Franklin 27th Street Corridor Study.

 

For short term, the Committee has requested Engineering to request WisDOT for a longer left-turn arrow for westbound College Avenue onto southbound S. 27th Street. 

 

Motion made to send request to WisDOT by Bill Schaper. Seconded by Brian Murphy. Motion passed.

 

5.               Adjournment

 

Motion made by Bill Shaper and seconded by David Schneider to adjourn. Motion passed.
