Civil Service Commission

Monday, August 2, 2004

1. The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. 
2. Present were James Potter, Andrea Drosen, Brad Evans, John Przybyla, and Marie Pellett.  Also present were City Librarian Ross Talis and City Administrator Barbara Blumenfield.
3. John Przybyla made a motion, seconded by Andrea Drosen, to approve the minutes of June 29.  All aye; motion carried.
4. Review and discuss upcoming Children’s/Young Adult Librarian vacancy and recruitment process.

               The employee currently in the position has been with the city for 2½ years and recently had a child.  She has chosen to resign her position and be an at home mom.  In response to Ms. Blumenfield’s inquiry, Ross indicated that no current employees expressed interest in the position.  The group discussed the language in the job description regarding education requirements and suggested that the first sentence be removed and the second sentence be modified to reflect that a Master’s degree is required.  Ross will take the change to the Library Board meeting next week for approval.  The vacancy will be advertised in the Milwaukee Journal, Post, Oak Creek Pictorial, Job Service, on the city web site and in the Spanish Journal.

   Brad Evans made a motion to change the language in the job description to reflect the required master’s degree and to remove the ambiguous first sentence under Education requirements.  John Przybyla seconded the motion.  All aye; motion carried.

5. John Przybyla made a motion, seconded by Andrea Drosen, to adjourn the meeting at 5:18 p.m.  All aye; motion carried.
