2)         Review of Minutes

The minutes of the May 12, 2004 meeting were approved on a motion by Ann Lampe.  Seconded by Cliff Nelson.  Motion passed.

3)         Old Business

A.  A request was made to the State for a “No U-turn” sign on the Northbound lane of S. Howell Avenue at the Pick N’ Save median opening.  The request was made because the vehicles make a U-turn at this median opening are sitting in the through traffic lane.  The State denied the request because it is not a solution to the problem and would just move the problem to another median opening.   The State also denied any median openings for the McDonald’s/Wimmer Property.  The State recommends that the City install a left turn lane at the Pick N’ Save median opening to remove the vehicles from the travel lane.

B.  A request was made to install “Right Turn Only” pavement markings on E. Drexel Avenue at S. Verdev Drive.  The request is to mark the existing right turn lane with pavement markings to prevent vehicles using the lane as a through lane.  The item is being discussed again since the mail was delayed informing the public about the request.

George Artka made a motion to install the “right turn only” pavement markings.  George Krudop seconded.  Motion passed with 7 ayes.

C.  A request was made to install Stop Signs on W. Jonathan Drive at the intersection of S. Applecreek Drive.  The item is being discussed again since the mail was delayed informing the public about the request.

Resident who lives at 8575 S. Applecreek reported speeding on both roads.  Cliff Nelson agreed that speeding occurs in the area.  George Artka suggested reporting to Police.  Ann Lampe suggested placing the “Cop in a Box” to monitor the speeding and issuing camera tickets.  George Kuprop suggested monitor and call Police.  Cliff Nelson made a motion to deny the installation of the stop signs.  Ann Lampe Seconded.  Motion passed with 6 ayes.

4)         New Business

A.     Request to Milwaukee County for “No Engine Braking except under Emergency” signs on the Southbound lane of S. 13th Street approaching W. Oakwood Road.

A resident on 13th Street had asked for the signs.  George Artka made a motion to request the installation of two “No Engine Braking except under Emergency” signs.  Ann Lampe seconded with suggestion that City offer to install them.

B.     Request for Stop Signs on E. Connie Lane at the intersection of S. Harrian Lane.

Request for traffic counts over the weekend as that is the trouble time.  Cliff Nelson suggested monitoring.

C.    Request for “Duck Crossing” Signs at Miller Park on E. Groveland Drive.

Dick Hay wrote a letter to the Commission stating the signs were not warranted.  Ann Lampe suggested improving Miller Park for the nesting of ducks and installing speed bumps on Groveland Drive for a trial period to slow traffic.  George Artka made a motion to deny the installation of the Duck Crossing sign.  Ann Lampe Seconded.  Motion passed with 6 ayes.

5.                  Adjournment

George Krudop moved to adjourn the Traffic and Safety Commission meeting.  Seconded by Ann Lampe.   Motion passed.
