PROCEEDINGS, SPECIAL COMMON COUNCIL MEETING

                                                                   WEDNESDAY, JUNE 16, 2004, 7:00 P.M.

 

 

CITY OF OAK CREEK

MILWAUKEE COUNTY

 

 

Mayor Bolender called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  On roll call, the following aldermen were present:  Ald. Kopplin, Ald. Foeckler, Ald. Lampe, Ald. Toman and Ald. Grabowski.  Ald. Jonas was excused.  Also present were:  City Attorney Lawrence Haskin and Deputy City Clerk Pam Bauer.

 

1.             Mayor Bolender made his opening remarks and established “ground” rules for the Common Council, candidates and audience regarding the interviews of candidates for the vacant Municipal Judge position.

 

2.             City Attorney Lawrence Haskin then conducted interviews of the following candidates for the vacant Municipal Judge position:

                a.             Steven R. McDonald, 325 W. Aspen Dr., #6

                b.             Jane M. Rolling, 9890 S. Glenmoor Ct.

                c.             Louis Giblin, 7468 S. Logan Ave.

                d.             Alice A. Rudebusch, 325 W. Aspen Dr.

 

3.             There was a brief recess to allow interested parties to return to the meeting room.

 

4.             City Attorney Haskin provided an explanation of the appointment timeline, the voting options available to the Council, and the number of votes required to approve a candidate.

 

5.             The consensus of the Common Council was to use the paper ballot option to vote for their choice of candidates.  Ald. Kopplin, Ald. Foeckler, Ald. Toman and Ald. Grabowski voted for Alice Rudebusch, and Ald. Lampe voted for Jane Rolling.  Ald. Kopplin, seconded by Ald. Foeckler, moved to confirm the appointment of Alice Rudebusch to the position of Municipal Judge, effective 6/28/04 for a term expiring 4/30/05, with a special election to be held on 4/5/05.  On roll call, the vote was as follows:  Ald. Kopplin, aye; Ald. Foeckler, aye; Ald. Lampe, aye; Ald. Toman, aye; and Ald. Grabowski, aye.

 

6.             Ald. Kopplin, seconded by Ald. Foeckler, moved to convene into Executive Session at 8:24 p.m., pursuant to Wisconsin State Statutes, Section 19.85(1)(g) to consider possible litigation regarding the proposed placement of Billy Lee Morford, a sexually violent person, at 445 E. Oak St., Oak Creek, WI.  On roll call, the vote was as follows:  Ald. Kopplin, aye; Ald. Foeckler, aye; Ald. Lampe, aye; Ald. Toman, aye; and Ald. Grabowski, aye.

 

7.             Ald. Kopplin, seconded by Ald. Grabowski, moved to reconvene into Open Session at 8:55 p.m.  All voted aye; motion carried.  No action was taken.

 

                Ald. Kopplin, seconded by Ald. Foeckler, moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:55 p.m.  All voted aye; motion carried.
