The Oak Creek Parks, Recreation & Forestry Commission meeting was held at the Oak Creek City Hall, Solarium Conference Room, 8640 S. Howell Avenue, Oak Creek, WI, on Thursday, October 9, 2003, and was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by Chairperson Janet Fluegel.
The minutes from the September 11, 2003, meeting was approved on a motion made by Ann Lampe and seconded by Dan Jahn. All aye; motion carried.
The financial statements and claims for the months of August and September were approved on a motion made by Greg Lampe and seconded by Jennifer Wimmer. All aye; motion carried.
The Director reviewed the Common Council’s proposed 2004 budget and Capital Improvement Program review schedule with the Commission.
The Commission reviewed the request from Thomas Jungck to purchase a 23,031 square foot portion of property that the City owns at 11511 South Chicago Road (Scanlan Park).
The Commission reviewed the current subdivision development to the north of the proposed park site and the proposed subdivision that provides a park access easement. Ann Lampe made a motion recommending the sale of the proposed 23,031 square foot portion of Scanlan Park with the recommendation that the monies received from the sale go into a park escrow account for development of the park site. Greg Lampe seconded the motion, all aye, motion carried.
The Director requested approval to purchase one set of soccer goals and one pair of adapter basketball backboards and goals for the minor league soccer program and second graders basketball program. The total cost is $1,585. There is approximately $3,000 in the donation account.
After some discussion, Greg Lampe made a motion to approve the purchase of the soccer and basketball goals with donation account funds. Seconded by Jennifer Wimmer, all aye, motion carried.
The Director wanted to discuss the proposed skate park design cost estimate with the Commission, but the figures are not available yet. He did discuss excavation concrete/asphalt pad options. Anne Lampe and Greg Lampe commented on the large numbers of skateboarders that skateboard around the high school.
Hopefully, the design cost estimate will be available for the November commission meeting.
The Commission reviewed the recreation report handed out by the Director.
