- New Business – Presentation of Community Health
Improvement Plan. Sue Wojcinski and Mariana Liebsch presented the Plan
to the Board. They gave an overview of the meetings and the recommendations. Motion
by Ald. Koehler, seconded by Dr. D’Amico and unanimously approved that
the board accept the plan as presented. The CPHA was instructed to prepare
a fiscal estimate for presentation of the plan to the Common Council.
- Approval of Minutes – May 8, 2003 meeting. Motion
by S. Schneider, seconded by J. DeVita, and approved as
written.
- Correspondence
- Note from Robert Harris, Southeast Regional Office,
Division of Public Health – informational only.
- Note from Sgt. Mitchell, OCPD re: dog bite complaints
– the Board discussed the current procedure for dog bite complaints
and animal quarantine. The Board recommended that the initial contact should
remain with the police department and if the dog/cat/gerbil is current
on its rabies vaccine, the health department will follow-up with in-home
quarantine measures on the next working day. All other animals will
continue to be quarantined at a veterinary facility. The CPHA was instructed
to prepare a procedure and ordinance change for approval at the next
Board
meeting. There was also a concern expressed about the number of animals
in homes vs. apartments vs. condominiums.
- CPHA Report – as printed; also gave
an update on monkey pox.
- City Sanitarian Report – Reported that anything
concerning water is referred to the plumbing inspector/sanitarian. Permits
are not required to have ponds in yards. There are some low lands with
stagnant water in them.
- Medical Advisor Report – No report.
- Council Representative Report – Expressed that
he’s received concerns regarding reactions of pets to fertilizers placed
on lawns.
- Meetings Attended by Board Members – None. Motion
by Dr. D’Amico, seconded by Ald. Koehler, and approved to remove
this item from the agenda.
- Old Business
- Up-date on course of action for mosquito control
activities – Motion by S. Schneider, seconded by Ald. Koehler and approved
to accept the mosquito control plan for the City of Oak Creek as presented.
- Up-date on beach monitoring grant program – South Milwaukee has begun
to monitor the water quality at Bender Park twice
weekly; the bacteria counts have been low with no need to close the
beach.
- Up-date on bioterrorism preparedness activities
– The CPHA continues attending meetings with the consortium of health
departments from Milwaukee and Waukesha counties.
- Up-date on well maintenance issues – J. DeVita
reported that he is checking the records on private wells. Operator
permits are renewable every five years. There are 1,500 - 1,700 wells
in Oak Creek;
the DNR oversees them. Recommendation made that the inspection department
cross check with the water utility before sending letters regarding
well maintenance and testing.
