Request from Community Development Authority to Upgrade Howell Avenue Flower Beds
The Community Development Authority (CDA) is interested in having the raised perennials and flowering shrub beds on Howell Avenue medians to include "color flowers" like the beds near the airport. The Director informed the Commission that "color flowers" (annuals) require more watering than perennials. Since the medians do not have irrigation systems, it would require additional labor hours to water and also maintain the annual flower beds. The Director raised other concerns regarding the CDA’s request and will be responding to their request after it is reviewed with staff. The Commission feels the present perennials and flowering shrub beds look nice.
Paul Sigler made a motion that sufficient maintenance efforts are being directed toward the median beautification program. If there is additional money available to be put in the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department budget for such things as color flower bed enhancement, he would like to have the monies directed toward other Department maintenance priorities, seconded by Marianne Dickmann. All aye, motion carried.
