CITY OF OAK CREEK PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
Thursday, November 15, 2001
Alderperson Ann Lampe (attended from 7-7:07 PM), Sandra Herte, Janet Fluegel, Jodie Nelson, Del Nirode, Greg Lampe (arrived at 6:55 PM), Marianne Dickmann and Douglas Schachtner (Director of Parks & Recreation) were in attendance. Absent: Paul Sigler
The Oak Creek Parks & Recreation Commission meeting was held at Oak Creek City Hall in the Solarium Conference Room on Thursday, November 15, 2001. Chairperson Del Nirode called the meeting to order at 6:33 PM.
The minutes from the September 6, 2001, meeting was approved on a motion made by Sandra Herte and seconded by Jodie Nelson. All aye; motion carried.
The financial statements and claims for the months of September/October were approved on a motion made by Marianne Dickmann and seconded by Sandra Herte. All aye; motion carried.
2002 Proposed Budget
The Director updated the commission on the progress with the 2002 proposed Parks and Recreation Department budget. The departments CIP/CEP requests were approved as submitted. The discussion included information on rising medical insurance costs, salaries, part-time budgets, etc. The budget will be going to a public hearing on December 3, 2001.
Urban Forestry Grant-Training, Equipment Purchase, Tree Replacement, Arbor Day
The City Forester, Rebecca Lane, applied for a year 2002 Urban Forestry Grant for matching funds approximately $12,000.
Name the Park Contest
The entries for the "Name the Park Contest" for the newly constructed soccer/football complex at 8460 S. Chicago Road were reviewed by the Commission. Marianne Dickmann made a motion to select the name "Kicker’s Creek Park" as the winning entry for the "Name the Park Contest". Seconded by Janet Fluegel. All aye, motion carried.
Purchase Office Workstations with Donation Account Funds for the Director & Recreation Supervisor
The Director distributed a copy of the workstation plan for the commissioner’s review. Jodie Nelson made a motion to approve the purchase of workstation for each the Director and Recreation Supervisor. Seconded by Sandra Herte. All aye, motion carried.
Dogs in Parks Regulations
Marianne Dickmann made a motion to pursue discussions with Milwaukee County for the use of county land (which is in the City of Oak Creek) for a dog park and to set ordinances regarding dogs in parks. Seconded by Janet Fluegel. All aye, motion carried.
WPRA Ticket Program
A copy of the ticket sales and profits were included in the commission packets.
December Meeting-Call of the Chair
Marianne Dickmann made a motion that the December meeting be a call of the Chair. Seconded by Jodie Nelson. All aye, motion carried.
Park Development
Camelot Park-There will be another neighborhood meeting on December 6 for the residents in the area regarding the new park site location/plan.
South Hills Park-
The City has been receiving free fill and the park is almost to grade. The Director suggested that a small sledding hill and small parking area be put in the park. He will be bringing a park site plan to the Commission for review and approval in the near future.
Recreation Programs
The recreation report was included in the commissioner’s mail packets. There was no discussion on the recreation programs.
Ballfield Reservation Requests & Miller Park Facility Reservation Requests
No special requests as of the time of the meeting.
Jodie Nelson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:32 pm. Seconded by Greg Lampe. All aye, motion carried.
