Recommendation: That the Common
Council adopt Ordinance No. 2502, renaming the position of
Finance Manager to Finance Director and amending the salary range and current
salary, effective 5/1/08.
Background: With the impending retirement of the current
Finance Manager on 12/31/08,
Council discussion was held on 2/18/08
regarding a variety of issues regarding restructuring of the Accounting
Department, the qualifications for and hiring of a person to replace the
Finance Manager, as well as a revision of the Finance Manager’s salary during
the shadowing period.
On
2/18/08, the
Council did approve restructuring of the Accounting Department, to take effect 5/1/08. The Council also agreed to begin recruitment
of a new Finance Director in sufficient time to allow that person to shadow the
current Finance Manager. The Council
also authorized a revision of the current Finance Manager’s salary effective 5/1/08 thru 12/31/08 to be in line
with Grade D, Level 1 of the Carlson-Dettmann Study. A copy of the 2/18/08 Council minutes is attached.
Fiscal Impact: There are sufficient funds available in
Account 44-100 Salaries Full-Time to
cover the additional wages of approximately $4,500.00 for the remainder of the
year.
