Recommendation: That the Common Council approve the purchase
of 31 sets of technical rescue gear from Paul Conway Shields, Inc. in the
amount of $50,840.
Background: This request is for technical rescue gear
which includes jacket, pants, suspenders, and 12” technical rescue boots. Nineteen sets have been previously purchased
and supplied during the tunnel rescue time period. This request is to outfit the remaining fire
department members with like equipment for other specialized rescue situations
where firefighters may respond. This gear
can also be used for wildland firefighting, confined space rescues, high angle
technical rescues, trench and collapse situations, and to provide protection at
emergency medical calls where firefighters may be exposed to significant
exposure type products.
Fiscal Impact: The total cost of the technical rescue gear
is $50,840. The money for this project
was approved in the 2008 We Energies Mitigation Fund #19.
