City of
Oak Creek
Common
Council Report
Meeting
Date:
March 18, 2008
Item
No.:
Recommendation: That the Common Council consider a motion to
award the Asbestos Abatement for the Street Department Facility Renovation and
Addition reconstruction project to the lowest responsive, responsible bidder,
Dirty Ducts Cleaning Environmental & Insulation Inc. (Project No. 06027) (2nd
Aldermanic District)
Background: The City of Oak Creek retained Northern Environmental to
inspect and prepare a report for asbestos containing materials located within
the Street Department facility. The
Engineering Department requested quotes to remove the material from five
registered contractors. The Engineering
Department received three quotes ranging from $16,000 to $36,500 for complete
removal with Dirty Ducts giving the lowest quote. If the Council chooses to not construct the
Street Department Facility Renovation and Addition, then the removal of
asbestos to create a safe and suitable working environment will cost approximately
$11,000 (some encapsulation is allowable).
If the Council chooses one of the alternatives for the Street Department
Facility Renovation and Addition, then the removal of asbestos will cost
$16,000 (no encapsulation allowed).
Fiscal Impact: Currently approximately $1,360,000 is
available through CIP funds.
