RE:            Traffic & Safety Commission Recommendations for August 06, 2007

On August 6, 2007, the Common Council will be asked to concur with the recommendations of the Traffic and Safety Commission to approve the installation of street signs and pavement markings as depicted in the attached exhibits.  The Commission is supplying this information so you can better understand the recommendations.  The following is a summary of each recommendation as depicted in the exhibits.

Carrollville Crossings Street Signs (Exhibit 1) – The citizens in this subdivision requested that stop signs be installed at the three intersections located within the subdivision.  The Commission felt that stop signs were not necessary, but felt that proper signage should be provided.  The citizens and Commission worked together and agreed that the installation of speed limit signs at points of entry into the subdivision and reverse curve warning signs with advisory speed limit would be an acceptable solution.

S. Emerald Meadows Dr. Speed Limit Sign (Exhibit 2) – A citizen residing along S. Emerald Meadows Dr. complained of speeding from vehicles traveling south, so the resident requested that speed limit signs be installed south E. Green Meadows Dr..  The Commission felt that this was a reasonable request.

E. Honeysuckle Dr./S. Orchardview Ln. Intersection (Exhibit 3) – The Farmington Hills Homeowners Association first requested the installation of stop signs at this location, but the Commission rejected this request and agreed to find another acceptable solution.  Three residents in attendance stated that the main issue at the intersection was parking.  The Commission and the residents brainstormed for acceptable ideas and agreed to remove existing “no parking” signs and replace with permanent “no parking” signs.  In addition to this change, the addition of pavement markings to signify parking restrictions was added at locations shown in the exhibit.  The citizens and Commission members both agreed that this was a good solution to the existing parking problems.
