City of Oak Creek
Common Council Report
Meeting Date: 6/05/07
Item No.:
Recommendation: That the Common Council be presented with information regarding the re-mapping of environmental corridor throughout the City of Oak Creek.
Background: Representatives from South East Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC), the Oak Creek Water and Sewer Utility, and the Oak Creek Engineering Department, will be present to explain to the Mayor and Common Council the reason for, and ramification of, re-mapping the entire city for environmental corridor.
There are many reasons why land is included in an environmental corridor. One of the reasons is the land resides within the 100 year flood plain. The City adopted revised flood plains in 2005 as a product of its Storm Water Study. FEMA is currently updating their flood plain maps. Oak Creek has requested that this update mirror the flood plains it has adopted. After FEMA publishes final maps, SEWRPC should update their environmental corridors as a course of normal business or the City could request that the effort begin now to speed up the process.
Fiscal Impact: Should the City elect to formally request SEWRPC to re-map the city’s environmental corridor, the work will be completed at no cost to the City of Oak Creek.
