Background: George M. Artka served the City of Oak Creek Police Department for 28 years and 7 months, and his career dictates that he be honored with this Resolution of Appreciation.

RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
TO
GEORGE M. ARTKA
WHEREAS, George M. Artka began his employment with the City of Oak Creek on October 9, 1978, as a full-time Police Officer; and
WHEREAS, George M. Artka has been a valuable employee during his years of dedicated service with the Oak Creek Police Department, always striving to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the City; and
WHEREAS, during his twenty-eight years and seven months of service, George M. Artka has been an integral part of the Police Department. After serving over fourteen years as a patrol officer, George was promoted to the position of Sergeant on January 5, 1992, and then rose to the ranks of Lieutenant four years later on June 6, 1996. George managed 2nd shift patrol for 10 years—from 1997 until his retirement—which was the shift with the greatest volume of calls for service and traffic, and
WHEREAS, George M. Artka was one of the first officers assigned to the Department’s Motorcycle Patrol Unit and an original member of the in-house Drug Enforcement Unit where he conducted numerous under-cover investigations and presented may drug education classes to youth, and
WHEREAS, during George M. Artka’s career, he was responsible for managing the Department’s Bicycle Patrol Unit since its inception in 1997, the Police Aide Program, Citizens’ Academy Program and the Student Intern Program. He represented the Department on the City of Oak Creek Traffic and Safety Committee for many years and wrote for and received many traffic safety grants, which generated thousands of dollars toward directed traffic enforcement and related equipment, and
WHEREAS, George M. Artka is retiring from the Oak Creek Police Department force after completing 28 years and 7 months of full-time service to the City of Oak Creek.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek, for and on behalf of the citizens of the City of Oak Creek, that sincere gratitude and appreciation be extended to George M. Artka for his years of professional, dedicated and faithful service to the City of Oak Creek and the Police Department, that the best wishes for good health and happiness be extended to George M. Artka and his family for future years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and that the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a suitable copy thereof to George M. Artka.
