CONGRATULATIONS TO

DAN JAKUBCZYK

2007 OAK CREEK CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

WHEREAS, the Oak Creek Citizen of the Year Committee conducts an annual search for the person who, in its judgment, is most deserving of acknowledgment because of loyal, unselfish and patriotic service to the community; and

WHEREAS, the Oak Creek Citizen of the Year Committee has selected Dan Jakubczyk as its 2007 Citizen of the Year, for which he will be duly honored at a recognition dinner on Friday, May 11, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Dan Jakubczyk, a resident of Oak Creek for 31 years, is married to his wife Bonnie, and has two children, Dennis and Nancy; and

WHEREAS, Dan Jakubczyk served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969, attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), and is a retired employee of GE Medical Systems after 31 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Dan Jakubczyk, because of a strong commitment to his family, has served as an assistant coach and umpire for the Oak Creek Little League; as assistant coach and referee for the Southeast Hockey Association of Wisconsin; and was a chaperon and driver to many of his daughter’s Girl Scout events; and

WHEREAS, Dan Jakubczyk, a member of the American Legion for 38 years, and a member of Oelschlager-Dallmann American Legion Post 434 for 30 years, has served in various leadership capacities for Post 434 as Commander, Adjutant, Post Honor Guard and Post Bingo; and held various offices for the 4^th District as District Commander, 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th Vice President, Historian, and Sergeant at Arms; and

WHEREAS, among Dan Jakubczyk’s many accomplishments within the American Legion and his community were to organize American Legion National Oratorical Contests with the Oak Creek High School, and to participate in the High School Civics Government testing program sponsored by the American Legion; to volunteer his time at the Milwaukee VA Hospital visiting veterans, handing out cards and gifts to those at the hospital; to visit various businesses in Oak Creek offering poppies on Poppy Day in May, to participate in the building of the Oak Creek Veterans’ Memorial, as well as his involvement in Memorial Day, 4^th of July and Veterans’ Day activities; and

WHEREAS, Dan Jakubczyk has rendered countless hours of community service, and has touched the lives of so many.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek hereby congratulate Dan Jakubczyk on being selected the 2007 Oak Creek Citizen of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this proclamation be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and that the City Clerk be and she is hereby directed to transmit a suitable copy thereof to Dan Jakubczyk.
