Recommendation:  That the Common Council approves the recommendation of the Street Superintendent to purchase one (1) 2007, Case Model 580 SM Series 2 Backhoe from the lowest bidder, Miller Bradford & Risberg Inc., in the amount of $74,700.00.

Background:  The Street Department advertised for bids for a current model backhoe. We received five (5) bids. The lowest bid was received from Miller Bradford & Risberg in the amount of $74,700.00.

Due to the large amount of requests the Street Department receives for backhoe related work, we would request to forego trading in the 1988 John Deere that is currently being used. This would allow for the many other projects and requests to be done in timelier manner.

Fiscal Impact:  In the 2003 CEP the Street Department had funds in the account for the purchase of a new backhoe. A backhoe was not purchase that year; however the money remained in the account. Due to the cost increase some money from the 2006 CEP account was transferred to the 2003 account enabling us to buy this backhoe under 2007 prices.
