Recommendation:  That the Common Council adopts Resolution No. 10737-021907, a resolution to authorize the S. Howell Avenue sidewalk improvement projects listed below (Project No. 07021) (3^rd, 5^th & 6^th Aldermanic Districts).

Background:  In 2006, the CIP Committee recommended additional sidewalk improvements along S. Howell Avenue.  On February 13, 2007, the CIP Committee was in agreement to continue the sidewalk improvements along S. Howell Avenue by filling in the sidewalk gaps between Fairfield Drive and W. Drexel Avenue  The recommended segments shown below would require approximately 3/4 of the $80,000 budget.  If the additional segment is chosen to be included, the additional funds needed could be transferred from the remainder of 2007 “Unspecified Streets”.   The street repair program is doing very well and the recommendations this year are approximately 2/3 of available $840,000.  The construction of the additional segment would complete the sidewalk along S. Howell Avenue from Fairfield Drive to W. Drexel Avenue on both sides.  The Engineering Department would prepare the plans, specifications and bid documents.

Fiscal Impact:  That payment for said improvements will be made from funds in the “Unspecified New Segment Sidewalk” in the 2007 budget, Project 05035 – Oak Leaf Estates Sidewalk Modifications and if additional segment is added, a portion of the remainder of the 2007 Unspecified Streets.  These funds will be transferred to new Project No. 07021.

WHEREAS, in the judgment of the Common Council of the City of Oak Creek, it is deemed to be expedient and necessary and in the best interest of the City and the property affected thereby that the City proceed with the projects as follows:

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Oak Creek as follows:

1. That the aforementioned improvements be installed.

2. That payment for said improvements will be made from funds in the “Unspecified New Segment Sidewalk” in the 2007 budget, Project No. 05035 – Oak Leaf Estates Sidewalk Modifications and if additional segment is added, a portion of the remainder of the 2007 Unspecified Streets.

3. That the City Engineer is hereby authorized to approve final plans and specifications upon their completion.

4.         That the City Clerk is hereby authorized to advertise for bids for said improvements and that she shall advertise for such bids in the official newspaper, the Western Builder and the Daily Reporter.
