City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date:  December 4, 2007

Item No.:

Recommendation:  That the Common Council approve Ordinance No. 2484 amending Ordinance No. 2441 to add the salary and position title of the Battalion Chief of Operation.

Background:  On November 19, 2007 the 2008 budget was approved with the funds necessary to implement Phase 1 and 2 of the Fire Department Restructuring Plan.  At this time, the Fire Department is requesting the approved funds for the implementation of Phase 1 portion beginning on January 1, 2008.

Phase 1 was intended to address the gaps in the Department’s operational command structure and to make changes in response.  One of the Phase 1 changes is to establish three (3) Battalion Chiefs of Operation (56-hour schedule) positions, filled by the three (3) Captain positions in the current command structure.

On November 27, 2007 the Personnel Committee met to review the job description and salary recommendation for the Battalion Chief of Operation job position.  Approval was given to move forward to the full Council on December 4, 2007.

Fiscal Impact:  The funds for this position have been approved in the Fire Department’s 2008 budget.
