Recommendation:  That the Common Council approve the recommendation of the Personnel Committee and approve the elimination of the position of Account Clerk II in the Street Department and create the non-bargaining unit position of Administrative Assistant; and to authorize the posting and advertising of the position within a wage range of $37,500 to $47,000.

 

Background:  The position of Account Clerk II in the Street Department is currently vacant.  The Personnel Committee concurs with the Street Department Superintendent that the position should be eliminated and replaced with the non-bargaining unit position of Administrative Assistant.  This non-bargaining unit position would fill most of the duties of the former Account Clerk II and would also be responsible for confidential assignments from the Superintendent including, but not limited to, assisting in the preparation and maintenance of materials related to employee discipline and evaluation, processing applications, scheduling interviews, maintaining recruitment files, and preparing material for meetings with the Council and Personnel Committee. 

 

The new confidential position will offer the Street Department Superintendent greater flexibility in delegating clerical duties thereby freeing up time for department supervisions and organizational coordination. 

 

A copy of the job description as approved by the Personnel Committee is attached.

 

Fiscal Impact:  The funds necessary to pay for the wages and benefits of this position are contained in the 2007 Street Department budget.
