City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date:  1/3/2007

Item No.:

Recommendation:  That the Common Council approves Becker Boiler Company Inc. to replace the Weil-McLain boiler located at the Oak Creek Public Library.

Background:  This boiler was originally installed when the building was built in 1972. It provides hot water to the radiators around the perimeter of the building which keeps the windows from icing up, and it also provides heat for the main entrance areas of the Library. We have discovered a crack in one of the cast iron sections which is causing the boiler to lose water. This boiler is unable to be repaired and new parts are no longer available, so it must be replaced.

Fiscal Impact:  I received three proposals for the replacement of this boiler, they are as follows.

  1. Becker Boiler Company Inc.   $9,834
  2. Grunau Company Inc.             $11,190
  3. Illingworth Corporation            $16,864

The funding for this project will be taken from the 2006 control account.
