Recommendation:  That the Council adopt Ordinance No. 2444, an ordinance to repeal and recreate Section 2.44(d)(2) of the Municipal Code relating to the term of employment for the Sanitarian.

Background:  The Common Council approved funding in the 2007 budget to hire a full-time Registered Sanitarian.  Staff is working with the Mayor and Civil Service Commission to advance the selection process. 

Section 2.44 (d)(1) of the Municipal Code specifies that the position of Sanitarian will be by Mayoral appointment subject to confirmation by the Common Council.  That provision would not change.   Section 2.44 (d)(2), however, specifies that the appointment be for two (2) years commencing on May 1^st.  This section will no longer be applicable nor appropriate with the placement of an employee in the new full-time position.

Fiscal Impact:  There is no fiscal impact related to this decision.
