City of Oak Creek
Common Council Report
Meeting Date: September 19, 2006
Item No.:
Recommendation: That the Council adopt Ordinance No. 2430, an ordinance to amend the influenza immunization fee from $20 to $25 effective immediately.
Background: Currently the fee for the influenza immunization is $20 and the Board of Health has recommended increasing this immunization fee to $25.00. Two years ago, Medicare increased the allowed reimbursement for this immunization to $29.59. At least 60% of the influenza immunizations are given to senior citizens. Historically, each year the cost for the influenza vaccine goes up. For this year, the cost for a 10-dose vial of influenza is $115.00. The estimated cost to give the immunization is approximately $29.00. The Health Department runs the influenza clinics at a deficit but provides a vital service to this community.
On September 13, 2006, the Board of Health unanimously approved this fee increase.
Fiscal Impact: The Health Department has ordered 1,000 doses and expects approximately 800 immunizations to be given at a charge of $25.00. Therefore, the increase revenue generated by this increase will be $4,000.
