Recommendation:  That the Common Council authorize a settlement with Meyer Revocable Trust, in care of Warren Meyer, relating to a claim for excessive assessment for the 2005 assessment for the property at 9472 S. 27^th Street, Tax Key No. 878-9000, for a refund of 2005 property taxes in the amount of $1,956.61. (6^th District)

Background:  At the 2006 Board of Review held on August 16, 2006, the Board took action to approve a correction to the 2005 Assessment Roll for the property listed to LeRoy and Beulah Meyer Revocable Trust, 10/23/02, Warren Meyer, representative, at 9472 S. 27^th St., Tax Key No. 878-9000.   Attached is a copy of a letter dated August 11, 2006, from City Assessor Martin Kuehn to the Meyer Trust, indicating a correction of an error in the 2005 assessment for the property.  The error was due to having an incorrect number of acres listed as part of the property.

The Board of Review’s approval is now being forwarded to the Council for authorization to refund the amount of property tax paid erroneously.

Fiscal Impact:  The amount of the refund, $1,956.61, will be paid from General Government Account 40-575, Claims.  The City tax portion of the total amount is $567.42, and the balance will be charged back to the appropriate taxing districts.
