Subject:                  License Committee Update

                                Council Agenda Item 14

The License Committee meeting scheduled for Monday, 7/17/06, was not held due to lack of a quorum.  The following is the current status of licensing requests and my recommendations for the 7/18/06 Council meeting:

2.             Renewal Class B Combination license application submitted by Ay Caramba, 924 E. Rawson Ave., Ramon Sancha Agent.

I spoke with John DeVita on 7/17/06, as well as Sue Wojcinski, on the status of this restaurant.  According to John, Ramon Sancha has made a good faith effort to gain compliance of both city and state requirements.  The additional sink required to be installed by the state has been installed by the contractor, but still needs a faucet installed.  John is setting a deadline for this installation since the contractor is attempting to locate a matching faucet.  Additionally, the floor drain cover needs to be permanently affixed.  Sue has also requested that their soap dispenser be moved closer to the hand washing sink.  Also according to John, Scott Vesely, the State Environmental Sanitarian, is satisfied with the condition of the kitchen.  To date, the restaurant remains open for business.  I attempted to contact Mr. Veseley and left both a voice mail and email message for him.  There are two possible options for council action:

                1.             The license application can be again held for final approval from the City Sanitarian/Plumbing Inspector and State Sanitarian, including receipt of the responsible beverage certificate for Sancha, and payment of fees.

                2.             The license can be granted, with issuance subject to receipt of the responsible beverage certificate, payment of fees, and final approval from the City Sanitarian/Plumbing Inspector and State Sanitarian.

3.             Sharon Ann Kerner, selling frozen treats for Klondike Distributors.

This application needs review by the License Committee and should be directed held.

4.             Renewal Class B Combination license for Saraphino’s, 8020 S. Howell Ave.

The license application process is complete, fees have been paid, and per a memo from Larry Haskin, this license can be granted and issued.

5.             Class B Beer license for Cigar’s Center, 7844 S. Howell Ave., Domingo Reyes, Agent

This application needs review by the License Committee and should be held.

6.             Operator’s license application for Cheryl Mae Cummings

Everything is in order relating to this application, so my recommendation is to grant a license to Ms. Cummings.
