COUNCIL PROCLAMATION NO. 06-08

CONGRATULATIONS TO

MARIJO GIBLIN

FOR RECEIVING THE GIRL SCOUT

GOLD AWARD

WHEREAS, attaining the Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouting, and represents the time, leadership, creativity, and effort contributed to making their community better; and

WHEREAS, one of the requirements in attaining the Girl Scout Gold Award is to perform a service project; and

WHEREAS, Marijo Giblin’s service project, “Holiday Helpers”, was to provide assistance to residents at a nursing home who could not write their own holiday cards to friends and family; and

WHEREAS, Marijo Giblin began her project by collecting the cards from donations at her church and at the Oak Creek Community Center craft sale; had teen volunteers come to the Franciscan Villa to write cards for the residents; and was also able to create a card bank of more than 400 cards from spare cards, including holiday, sympathy, get well and others; and

WHEREAS, Marijo Giblin found that the project was beneficial to both the residents and the teen participants who had the opportunity to appreciate and respect the elderly, and also learned from her experience that both teenagers and the elderly have a surprising amount in common, and that she enjoys helping others; and

WHEREAS, Marijo Giblin will be honored at a special ceremony to be held by the Girl Scouts of Milwaukee Area, Inc., on Tuesday, May 16, 2006; and

WHEREAS, the City of Oak Creek Common Council wishes to recognize this noteworthy achievement of Marijo Giblin.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek do hereby extend their congratulations to Marijo Giblin for having a Girl Scout Gold Award conferred upon her.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this proclamation be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and the City Clerk be and she is hereby directed to transmit a suitable copy thereof to Marijo Giblin.
