RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO APPOINT SPECIAL REGISTRATION DEPUTIES

WHEREAS, Section 6.55(6) of the Wisconsin Statutes authorizes the governing body or board of election commissioners of any Wisconsin municipality to provide by resolution that any of the registration duties of inspectors under Wis. Stat. Sec. 6.55(2) shall be carried out in the municipality by special registration deputies appointed by the municipal clerk or board of election commissioners at any polling place or other registration location whenever the clerk or board of election commissioners determines that the registration process provides for in that subsection will be facilitated thereby; and

WHEREAS, a registration deputy appointed pursuant to Wis. Stat. Sec. 6.55(6) shall be appointed for one election only to conduct elector registration only; and

WHEREAS, the right to vote is an essential component of a free and democratic society; and

WHEREAS, the right to vote depends upon an effective voter registration process.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Oak Creek that:

            1.         Any of the registration duties of inspectors under Wis. Stat. Section 6.55(2) shall be carried out in the City of Oak Creek by special registration deputies appointed by the City Clerk of the City of Oak Creek at any polling place or other registration location whenever the City Clerk determines that the registration process provided for in that subsection will be facilitated thereby.

            2.         A registration deputy appointed pursuant to this resolution and Wis. Stat. Sec. 6.55(6) shall be appointed for one election only to conduct elector registration only.
