Informational:  This Common Council Report is for informational purposes only.  The Medical Advisor for the Health Department and the Health Officer reviewed the compensation for this position.  In order to be in line with amounts paid to other local Medical Advisors, it was agreed upon that beginning January 1, 2007, the compensation will be reduced to $2,400/year from $8,150/year.  This will be paid on a quarterly basis. 

Background:  There is limited written information related to the Medical Advisor.  Many years ago, the Medical Advisor actually gave the immunizations to the children and spent time at the Health Department.  This position has evolved into what it is today; which is a consultant and a member of the Board of Health.  The Medical Advisor also reviews various Health Department policies/procedures as needed, signs medical orders and authorizes the purchase of prescription pharmaceuticals.

Fiscal Impact: This action will save the 2007 Board of Health Budget $5,750.
