City of Oak Creek
Common Council Report
Meeting Date: 12/19/06
Item No.:
Recommendation: That the Common Council approve the Police Department’s purchase of a Coat 7065AX tire changer with robo-arm from Pomp’s Tires at a cost of $5,150.
Background: The new 2007 squad cars, both Ford and GM vehicles, are now equipped with 17” rims. The tire changer currently being utilized by the Police Department mechanic is not capable of servicing 17” rims. The Coat 7065AX tire changer is designed to handle 17” rims and is also equipped with a Robo-Arm that provides the extra power and leverage needed to easily and safely flex stiff sidewall tires. This option allows for the safer and more efficient operation when changing tires.
The Police Department received quotes from two separate vendors—Pomp’s Tires for the Coat 7065AX in the amount of $5,150 and from Wisconsin Tech Sales for the CEMB SM915TIMAXI Jumbo Swing Arm tire changer in the amount of $4,800. The Department currently has a Coats machine, which has functioned without repair or problems since 1988. Coats is an American-made product versus the CEMB, which is a foreign-made product. Pomp’s Tires will also provide training on the new unit at no additional cost.
The current tire changing machine, which is still in good condition, can be transferred to the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department for their tire changing/repair needs.
Fiscal Impact: The total cost for the Coat 7065AX tire changer is $5,150. This item was approved as part of the CEP program in the 2007 budget.
