COUNCIL PROCLAMATION NO. 06-16
CONGRATULATIONS TO
ANNE L. PLEVAK
ON HER 100TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, ANNE L. PLEVAK was born November 9, 1906 in Carrollville, Wisconsin, to Paul P. and Frances A. Plevak, and the home at 3907 High Street in which ANNE L. PLEVAK was born still stands to this day; and
WHEREAS, ANNE L. PLEVAK is the oldest living sibling of Stephanie, Mary, Helen and Peter; and
WHEREAS, ANNE L. PLEVAK, at a very young age, moved from Carrollville to the family farm on Fitzsimmons Road in Oak Creek, where she still resides; and
WHEREAS, ANNE L. PLEVAK attended school at Scanlan School through 4th grade, Otjen School through 8th grade; and graduated from South Milwaukee High School; and
WHEREAS, ANNE L. PLEVAK, held many jobs, the first being an office job at age 17 at the Bradstreet Agency in downtown Milwaukee, where she was required to type 800 lines per day, at Newport in Carrollville (later known as DuPont); and at Line Material (currently known as Cooper Industries). Later, at age 24, ANNE trained at South Milwaukee Hospital as an LPN, and worked at the Ladish Company as their factory nurse, and at the George J. Meyer Manufacturing Company. At age 46, ANNE’s dream of opening a dress shop came true when she opened the Fifth Avenue Dress Shop at 13th and Milwaukee Avenue in South Milwaukee. Although she loved her little dress shop, she was forced to sell her business when the Southgate Shopping Center opened, and ANNE then went back to work at the George J. Meyer Manufacturing Company until her retirement at age 65; and
WHEREAS, ANNE L. PLEVAK still goes shopping every Wednesday and mows the lawn – on her Snapper riding mower, loves to bake, and is famous for her bran muffins and Kolaches; and has a real love for growing orchids, where she proudly displays them all over her kitchen; and
WHEREAS, ANNE L. PLEVAK still washes her clothes in a wringer washer to this day and has never had a dryer, preferring to hang them out to dry in the fresh air of Oak Creek; and
WHEREAS, ANNE L. PLEVAK will be 100 years “young” on Thursday, November 9, 2006, and will celebrate her special day with a birthday party in her honor at The Packing House on Sunday, November 5, 2006.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek hereby wish ANNE L. PLEVAK a Happy 100th Birthday, and wish her health, happiness, and many more.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and she is hereby directed to transmit a suitable copy of this proclamation to ANNE L. PLEVAK.
