City of Oak Creek

Common Council Report

Meeting Date:  October 3, 2006

Item No.:

Recommendation:  That the Council reallocate the City’s unexpended CDBG funds from prior years to the Miller Park bathroom accessibility project.

Background:  The Council is being requested to authorize the use of unexpended Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for their use in remodeling the bathrooms at the Miller Park pavilion to make them handicapped accessible.

Earlier this summer, the Council authorized $37,800 from the 2007 CDBG allocation for this purpose the remaining $59,200 of the project (total cost $97,000) would come from funds that will be reallocated from past years unexpended funds.  The most current estimate of the available balance is $140,000, although we are attempting to verify this figure with Milwaukee County.

In order to authorize the use of CDBG funding for these projects, the City must first hold a public hearing.

Fiscal Impact:  There is adequate funding available for this project through the City’s unexpended CDBG funds from previous years.
