RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION

TO

GERARD R. HAMMERNIK

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK has retired from his position as Fire Chief effective December 31, 2005, after 31 years and 11 months of dedicated full time service to the City of Oak Creek Fire Department; and

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK was appointed as a Fire Fighter on February 4, 1974, and promoted to Lieutenant on July 1, 1984, to Assistant Fire Chief on April 7, 1986; and promoted to Fire Chief on July 1, 1998; and

 

WHEREAS, during his years of service, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK has performed his duties admirably, looking out for the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Oak Creek; and

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK responded to and commanded major alarms using his skills in fire fighting, rescue, and management admirably, without hesitation; and

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK has been one of the senior Emergency Medical Technicians in the State of Wisconsin and during his career has cared for thousands of citizens who were sick or injured, always delivering caring and skilled emergency care to them; and

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK conducted training in all aspects for the department and the citizens of Oak Creek during his career; and

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK represented the City as the Emergency Management Director leading the city in Emergency Preparedness; and

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK was a former member of the Milwaukee County Training Officers Association representing Oak Creek in training activities and serving as the President of the organization as part of his tenure, and

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK was a member of the Milwaukee County Chiefs Association and served as the President of the organization as part of his tenure, and

 

WHEREAS, GERARD R. HAMMERNIK was a member of the State of Wisconsin Education Association serving as President until retirement.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek for and on behalf of the citizens of the City of Oak Creek, that sincere gratitude and appreciation be extended to GERARD R. HAMMERNIK for his many years of dedicated and faithful service to the City of Oak Creek and the Fire Department, that the best wishes for good health and happiness be extended to GERARD R. HAMMERNIK and his family on his retirement.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and that the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a suitable copy thereof to GERARD R. HAMMERNIK.
