Recommendation:  That the Common Council discuss salary increases for the Mayor and Common Council, as requested by Ald. Jonas.

 

Background:  The last time a salary increase was approved for the Mayor and Council was in April 1995.  Ald. Jonas has requested discussion on the topic of salaries and is recommending an across-the-board minimum increase of 10% and a maximum increase of 20%, plus an increase of $25 in car allowances.  Some of his recommendations for an increase are based on the following:

Elected officials cannot receive salary increases while in their current term, so any increases would be staggered, with an increase effective 4/18/06 for Mayor and Aldermanic Districts 2, 4, and 6; and effective 4/07 for Aldermanic Districts 1, 3 and 5.
